Ray Bradbury- Textual analysis

It was easy for me to pick a piece to analyze. I really loved reading both of Ray Bradbury’s pieces at the beginning of the semester, so I chose to analyze both “The Veldt” and “There Will Come Soft Rains”.

I chose my colors based on some of the themes of the pieces. The greys and whites symbolize the machines and electronics mentioned throughout the short stories. The red, orange, and yellow symbolize both the fire in “There Will Come Soft Rains” and the veldt in “The Veldt”. I used the black to highlight the darkness, foreboding, and death mentioned throughout the stories as well.

Most of the words that I picked out were used to describe the various types of machines described. I think that was a good way to really highlight how cold and unhuman-like they all are.

There were also plenty of words that contributed to the dark theme of the stories. Both of them often mention death and dying. In the future, I will choose a font that is simple and straight to represent how clinical the machines are.

Although I like the way I went with my word cloud, in the future, I think it would be interesting to pick out each verb that is used to describe the machines in the stories. Every verb that is given to them is an attempt to make them seem more lifelike and human. This would’ve taken forever though.
